Things to do in September in Ludlow area

img_1390I love Ludlow in September. We have had the marvellous Food Festival. The weather came good and there were plenty of people, eats and entertainment in town. Thankfully, Ludlow is not a one-horse town, there’s plenty to keep us amused, such as:

ANTIQUE & COLLECTORS FAIR

This is a regular market held every 1st 3 week (what?, yeah me neither) according to the Ludlow events site. I suspect it’s monthly every third week, is that any clearer? There you have it, an antique and flea market held in the Ludlow Castle Square from 9 am – 4 pm on  Sunday, 18 September.

ON YOUR BIKE

It’s the third year for a fun family event the Ludlow Cycling Festival. I love seeing classic bikes and ladies and gentlemen kitted out in the full regalia. It’s all for a good cause too -money raised goes to Macmilllan Cancer Support. It’s happening on September 18 – all ages and abilities are catered to with quiet bike lane rides for people like me – the terrified.

GET CRAFTY

Why not take a course at this unique craft college in Shropshire? I have been enjoying my upholstery course at Westhope, which is set in gorgeous grounds. There is a variety of courses on offer. Here’s a small sample:

  • Portraiture weekend
  • Creative paper cutting
  • Watercolours made easy
  • Christmas willow wreaths
  • Make a glass bowl
  • Forged silver jewellery

Lunch is part of the course fee and had communally with all the other course attendees.

SEW PLEASED TO FINALLY MAKE SOMETHING

Lucy and I have been taking a wonderful sewing course at Marie’s Dressmaking for over 18 months now.  We bring our sewing machines, ambitious ideas and fabric. Our instructor, Karen, who also runs a curtain making business called Neat Pleats is knowledgeable and extremely patient and makes sure we scale our ambition to match our aptitude, keeps us task – that means more stitching and less bitching. Marie’s Coffee Loft on site means our fabulous group is fuelled by coffee and cake, yup, sewing is a real pleasure. Evening classes are now available.
